Alex's Carnivore Diet Journey: Finding Balance for Optimal Wellness

Alex here, ready to dive into my personal experience with the carnivore diet. If you've been following our blog or podcast, you might know that my approach to food and wellness has been an evolving journey, especially since a life-changing seizure back in 2021. Today, I want to share the ups, downs, and in-betweens of my carnivore experiment.

When I first dipped my toes into the world of carnivore eating, I actually started with more of an animal-based approach. Picture this: alongside my meats, I was still enjoying fruits, raw honey, and even some raw dairy. It was a gentle introduction, but as time went on, I found myself drawn to a stricter carnivore protocol. Here's the plot twist, though - every time I went full-on carnivore, sticking to just meat, salt, and a touch of butter, I felt like I was missing the mark.

I know what you might be thinking. "Alex, were you on top of your electrolytes? Were you doing the diet 'right'? Did you get enough fat?" Trust me, I tried it all. But no matter how much I fine-tuned and optimized, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off. My eyes would get dry and irritated, and I generally felt like I was running on fumes. It became pretty clear that the super strict carnivore life just wasn't vibing with my body.

Now, here's where things get interesting. Whenever I allow myself a little wiggle room and variety, like adding in the occasional veggie or treat, it's like my body breathes a sigh of relief. And that got me thinking - maybe finding the right way of eating isn't just about nourishing our physical bodies, but also about aligning with our souls. When we constantly suppress our natural desires (for intimacy, experience, or love through food) in the name of dietary perfection, it's only a matter of time before some people will burn out. 

I want to be real with you, though. I'm not here to bash the carnivore approach. For some people, it can be an incredible tool for pinpointing food sensitivities, taming inflammation, and hitting the reset button. If your soul is fully on board with the carnivore commitment, more power to you! It's just not my long-term focus, and there is more to it for me than just sheer "nutrition".

However, one non-negotiable for me? Being in a state of ketosis a majority of the time. I've found it to be an absolute game-changer for my physical and mental well-being. But here's the thing - the road to ketosis can look different for everyone. I can handle more carbohydrates and still remain in ketosis, while others, like C, are more affected.

So, after a whole lot of trial and error (and some serious soul-searching), I've landed on my sweet spot: a keto-centric approach that puts animal foods first but also leaves room for the occasional indulgence and personalized tweaks. By finding this balance, I'm able to feel my best while still enjoying life. No more squeezing myself into a rigid dietary box.

If you're on your own journey to discover your ideal way of eating, just know that you're not alone. It's so easy to get caught up in the hype of various dietary trends, especially when you see others thriving on a specific plan. But remember, their version of "optimal" might not be yours. Embrace the process, practice self-compassion, and trust that your food choices are just one part of your grand, soul-level journey. We're all here to learn, grow, and expand in our own unique ways.
